  • Location: Vancouver Island, British Colombia, Canada

    Species (Harvested): Coastal Black Bear

    Sex: Male (Boars)

    Color Phases

    • 99%+ are pure black, giving them that slick, dark coasstal look

    • Very little color phasse diversity compared to interior BC

    • If you’re looking for a deepblack, thick-haired rug, this is the place

    Hunting Terrain & Conditions

    • Steep, thick, and rainforest-like terrain

    • Hunting typically along:

      • Logging roads

      • Old growth timber cuts

      • Tidal flats and river inlets

    • Expect rain, fog, and dense brush. Bootss, rain gear, and patience are essential

    Shot Placement & Bear Toughness

    • Aim tight behind the front shoulder

    • Most run 30-100 yards even with good shots

    • Expect a hard blood trail if shot isn’t perfect

    • Guides in this region emphasize shot placement and larger caliber rifles — these bearss don’t just tip over
